We might remember with the meteorites hit Chelyabinsk, Russia few days ago. Most of windows were broken and damaged walls in the 4715 building because of the meteorite that crashed in the Ural Mountains. Most of the buildings were damaged are settlements. Traces of falling objects can be seen from the Yekaterinburg region, about 200 kilometers north of Chelyabinsk.

A meteorite is more commonly known as a fallen star or we can call it moon rocks. Meteorites are pieces of space objects that have landed on the earth's surface. They landed on the earth after surviving a fiery journey through the atmosphere. Each of meteorites is unique in size and shape, and is made of either stone or iron. The iron meteorites that lay beneath the surface commonly stand out as unusual. They are made primarily of iron and nickel. Scientist called them as Iron, Stony Iron, or Chondrite meteors. We can find them from the metal detector.

Even that the meteorites are rarer than gold, platinum, diamonds or emeralds. Owning meteorite is like the way to touch the cosmos. No wonder that the demand for such an experience is quite high all over the world.  They often sell for $300.00 per gram or more....wow. So, it means 1 pound meteorite can be worth a million dollars. According to the Meteoritical Society (database), more than 1500 verified meteorites have been found in the U.S. in the past 200 years. Such as: Texas (291 meteorites), California (177 meteorites), New Mexico (214 meteorites), Nevada (50 meteorites), Arizona (85 meteorites), and many more. And then the best place to start looking for these meteorites is in deserts.

“Small pieces of meteorites may only have a value of a few dollars, but a big meteorite can be worth . $ 100,000 or even more,” said Joseph Gutheinz, a meteorite specialist expert and former NASA special agent. "I hope people are over there having a metal detector. Maybe there are people who participate and looking for pieces of a meteorite," said Gutheinz.

He explained that the size of the meteorite are important but the price is also determined by rarity, provenance, and of what is made. "The most common of this type there is a rock-iron. Its structure consists of a common mineral in the earth. Tiny piece of the meteorite could be valued around 20 dollars," said Chris Palma, a professor of the Department of Astronomy and astrophysics, Penn State University.

The sales record is a moonstone meteorite name Dar al Gani 1058and weighing 1.9 kilograms which sold for $ 330,000 in an auction in the United States. Meteorite found in Argentina weighing161 pounds sold for $ 93,000 on eBay in 2006.
